Mayor Rahm Emanuel, in a joint announcement with the Chicago Park District and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, said that a new sculpture will be installed along the lakefront trail at the northeast corner of Monroe Street and Lake Shore Drive this week; Two-hundred-foot-long and eight-foot-tall sculpture from artist Orly Enger, entitled “Hot Rod,” is made from recycled lobster rope and will be on display for one year

Kelly on Tuesday announced plans to convert the historic Theater on the Lake building into a year-round facility that will include a restaurant and new performance and event space; Building, located at the intersection of Fullerton Avenue and Lake Shore Drive, has only hosted summer programming in the past; Park district plans to issue RFPs for improvements to the existing structure in December

Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s administration on Tuesday announced that speed cameras at nine locations in Chicago had resulted in the issuance of 2,722 tickets between Oct. 16 and Nov. 17; Deputy Transportation Commissioner Scott Kubly said the city had given out an additional 24,000 warnings as a result of cameras placed throughout the city

Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s administration is investigating Janssen Pharmaceuticals Inc. – a unit of Johnson & Johnson – for allegedly marketing the Duragesic and Nucynta generic painkillers to city employees for the long-term treatment of chronic ailments – including back pain and arthritis – even  though the drugs are only approved for short-term use, according to Cook County Circuit Court filings

Mayor Rahm Emanuel introduced to the City Council on Wednesday an ordinance that would require operators of downtown horse-drawn carriages to pay a $25-annual-fee, as opposed to the current, one-time fee; Emanuel’s ordinance would also change the location for the temperature gauge used to determine when the weather is too extreme for carriages to operate from O’Hare Airport to Northerly Island
