Harold Washington Library gets new lighting under Infrastructure Trust’s Retrofit I

The Chicago Public Library's Harold Washington Library has received new energy-efficient lighting as part of the Chicago Infrastructure Trust’s Retrofit I initiative.

Using an average of 35 fewer watts per light fixture across a total of 6,000 metal halide light bulbs will help the city save “some real money” on energy costs, Public Building Commission Project Manager George Marquisos told members of the Infrastructure Trust Board during a meeting on Thursday. He also said the new bulbs provide far brighter and cleaner lighting than the previous bulbs.

Deliberate Infrastructure Trust dips toes into pool retrofit

At the start of Thursday’s Chicago Infrastructure Trust Board meeting, Trust Executive Director Stephen Beitler said that CohnReznick LLP was picked as the nonprofit’s auditing firm after no other company submitted a bid.

The revelation appeared an opportune moment for Trust Board member – and former city of Chicago inspector general – David Hoffman to pounce. Some aldermanic critics of the Trust, who said the entity needed more transparency, applauded Hoffman’s board appointment in June 2012.

Emanuel's infrastructure trust stumbles toward second deal

Chicago Infrastructure Trust set to break ground on first project

Nearly two years after Mayor Rahm Emanuel created the Chicago Infrastructure Trust, its first project won final approval on Tuesday.

The 11-member Public Building Commission Board, which oversees the construction and maintenance of city facilities, voted unanimously to manage the trust’s Retrofit One program. Under the $13 million initiative financed by Bank of America, energy-efficiency improvements will be made in 62 city-owned buildings.

Infrastructure Trust turns attention to LED streetlights, compressed natural gas

On the heels of the Chicago City Council’s approval of the organization’s first project in January, the Chicago Infrastructure Trust is now drawing up plans for public-private partnerships to bring LED streetlights as well as compressed natural gas vehicles and fueling spots to the city.

Chicago Infrastructure Trust approves outline of financing agreement for Retrofit One projects

The Chicago Infrastructure Trust Board on Tuesday approved a resolution outlining the terms and conditions of an energy savings agreement under which the trust would tap a private investor to pay for more than $25 million worth of Retrofit One energy savings projects.

The energy savings program will include work on 75 buildings in 40 different wards, according to Steve Beitler, CEO of CIT. He said the projects would reduce energy use in those buildings by 18 percent.

“We expect savings in the neighborhood of $2 million per year,” Beitler said.

Midway pact grounded, but public-private deals still on Emanuel's itinerary

Infrastructure Trust energy retrofit plan crawls ahead

The Chicago Infrastructure Trust Board of Directors inched forward on Friday a financing plan to provide energy retrofits for Chicago Public School buildings as well as structures run by the city’s Department of Water Management and Department of Fleet and Facility Management.

The five-member board authorized a request for proposals to consulting companies to review their unique financing plan. If an outside contractor green-lights the financing strategy, the Trust anticipates that the City Council could approve the energy retrofit financing this fall.
