Illinois Medical District Commission secures $1M grant to update vacant commercial building

The Illinois Medical District Commission has received a $944,064 grant from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation for the redevelopment of a vacant, 100-year-old commercial building that will be occupied by the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois.

ICECF’s grant supplements $3 million already committed to the project by Gov. Pat Quinn and the IMDC, the governing body of the country’s largest medical district, located on the city’s Near West Side.

An atrium in Stroger Hospital’s Specialty Care Center has been renamed in honor of Richard Phelan, who served as president of the Cook County board from 1990 to 1994.

The area was officially designated as the Richard J. Phelan Specialty Care Atrium during a ceremony held Monday.
