City Colleges of Chicago bonds receive positive ratings from S&P, Fitch

City Colleges of Chicago has received favorable ratings from two major credit rating agencies on $250 million in bonds it plans to sell this week.

Standard & Poor’s gave an “AA stable” rating to the 35-year bonds that the seven-college system will issue to support its $555 million capital plan, according to a recent City Colleges press release. The bonds received an “AA- stable” rating from Fitch.

Southern Illinois University President Glenn Poshard spoke at a City Club luncheon on Wednesday about the future of higher education on both the state and national level.

Poshard was the first in five generations in his family to graduate from college and has three degrees from SIU. His parents, who both had only third grade educations, understood that “in order to break the cycle of poverty, their children had to get a good education.”
