Gov. Pat Quinn on Thursday announced $10 million in state funding for Chicago Public Schools’ Safe Passage program.

The funding will allow the district to employ 600 new Safe Passage workers. Those employees will monitor routes at 27 schools that will be added to the program and additional routes at 93 schools that are already part of the program, according to the Governor’s Office. More than 65,000 CPS elementary and high school students attend those 120 schools.
