Q&A with Steve Solomon, Vice President of Corporate Relations for the Exelon Corporation and President of the Exelon Foundation

Steve Solomon has spent more than three decades in various roles with ComEd and Exelon in Chicago. Since its creation following the merger of ComEd and Philadelphia-based PECO Energy Corp. in 2000, Exelon has grown into a Fortune 100 energy company with 10 million customers across six utilities and is the nation’s largest producer of clean energy. In his current role as vice president of the company’s philanthropic arm, Solomon oversees corporate giving for Exelon, ComEd and Constellation, which represents about 60% of the corporation’s $46 million in contributions to nonprofits.

McCormick Square expansion drives record year for MPEA

Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority CEO Lori Healey touted her organization’s “transformative” year during a speech at the City Club of Chicago on Wednesday.

The MPEA is a municipal corporation that owns Navy Pier and a campus at McCormick Square, which includes the McCormick Place convention center and the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place. It is in the midst of expanding the McCormick Square campus and recently opened the 10,000-seat Wintrust Arena and the Marriott Marquis Chicago hotel.

Three House districts that flipped in 2016 will be contested again in 2018

Party control of six Illinois House districts flipped in the November 2016 elections. As of mid-November, three of those districts are set to host contests between Democrats and Republicans again in the 2018 election.

Former Illinois gubernatorial candidate calls for property tax cap advisory question on 2018 ballot

While speaking at the City Club of Chicago on Monday, radio host, former gubernatorial candidate and political pundit Dan Proft said he was working to place an advisory question on the 2018 ballot asking Illinois voters if the state should cap property taxes.

State lawmakers prepare for November veto session

The Illinois General Assembly will begin its second veto session on Tuesday, November 7 following three days of votes in October that saw the House fail to override Gov. Rauner’s veto of a bill prohibiting “right-to-work” zones.

Members of the General Assembly could address several others vetoes when they return to Springfield this week.

Republican state representatives who voted for tax increases report mixed Q3 fundraising results

On July 2, 2017, 15 Republican state representatives voted in favor of the Illinois state budget plan that included significant increases in the individual and corporate income tax rates. Nine of those Republicans have already announced that they will not seek reelection. The other six Republicans who voted for the tax increases and are seeking reelection reported mixed fundraising results in three months following the vote.
