Most of Illinois’ incumbent legislators fared well in Tuesday’s primary elections, but voters in a few districts rejected the status quo and nominate political newcomers.
In Democratic and Republican state House primaries, only 14 incumbents faced challengers while 82 other incumbents ran unopposed. Of the 14 incumbents facing primary challengers on Tuesday, only Daniel Burke (D-1st) and David Reis (R-109th) lost. Twenty-two House lawmakers choose not to seek reelection.
