County health system to pay $1.8 billion for CountyCare management

Cook County Health and Hospitals System board members signed off Friday on a massive five-year, $1.8 billion contract for IlliniCare Health Plan Inc. to manage CountyCare, the county’s managed health care network for Medicaid-eligible residents.

Westmont-based IlliniCare, a subsidiary of St. Louis-based Centene Corp., won the deal after no other companies submitted bids. Steven Glass, executive director for managed care at CCHHS, said Friday that the hospitals system, “Pro-actively reached out to about a dozen or so” managed care providers, but only IlliniCare replied.

City foolishly saying ‘no’ to health insurance revenue, alderman contends

Medical District to consider Special Olympics Chicago facility

The Illinois Medical District Commission has set a timetable for the potential approval of Special Olympics Chicago’s proposed $30 million facility amid assurances that outside money will be found for the venue.

Condoms to be dispensed at some CPS high schools

County will pay consultant to draft old hospital building plan

Cook County officials are – again – examining what to do with the old Cook County Hospital building that has sat vacant on Chicago's Near West Side since 2002.

The Cook County Board on Wednesday approved a $2.4 million contract with Chicago Consultants Studio, Inc., which will “evaluate current needs, future needs and make sure we have the flexibility for unforeseen needs” at the county building site, according to John Cooke, director of the Office of Capital Planning and Policy at Cook County.
