With 2014 drawing to a close, the Daily Whale staff spent some time reflecting on our coverage of the year’s biggest stories and our profiles of influential figures in Chicagoland’s government, business and political communities.

For this week’s profile, the team that produces the Daily Whale weighed in on the stories they are most excited to follow in 2015 and their favorite quotes from 2014’s profiles.

Happy Holidays from the Daily Whale

The Daily Whale would like to wish a very Happy Holidays to all of our readers and their families.

We will be publishing under a revised schedule between Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Friday, Dec. 26. The Daily Whale will not publish an afternoon newsletter between Dec. 24 and Dec. 26. Our morning newsletter will be published only on Dec. 24 and Dec. 26.

The Daily Whale’s regular, twice-daily publishing schedule will resume on Monday, Dec. 29.

Happy Thanksgiving from the Daily Whale

The Daily Whale staff wishes a very happy Thanksgiving to our readers and their families. In observance of the holiday, our daily newsletters will not be published on Thursday, Nov. 27 or Friday, Nov. 28. Our regular publishing scheduled will begin again on Monday, Dec. 1.

Quinn concedes, plans to use last days in office to focus on minimum wage

Gov. Pat Quinn conceded defeat to Republican Gov.-elect Bruce Rauner during a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.

At the time of Quinn’s announcement, he trailed Rauner in the polls by 5 percentage points with 99 percent of precincts reporting. Rauner had already declared victory on Tuesday night. “It is clear we do not have enough votes to win the election,” Quinn admitted on Wednesday.

In 2013, the Daily Whale has had the opportunity to share the stories of some of the most prominent figures in Illinois government, politics, education and the private sector.

The Whale spoke with those leaders about their backgrounds and their perspectives on key issues like pension reform, money management and the current state of journalism.
