City’s public health commissioner touts success battling teen smoking during City Club appearance

While speaking at a City Club of Chicago event Tuesday, Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Julie Morita touted the strides the city has made battling teen smoking. Morita said teen smoking in the city is the lowest on record thanks to an approach to the issue that focused on policy, systems and environmental change.

Q+A with Christian Mitchell

The Daily Whale sat down with newly-elected State Representative Christian Mitchel in 2013 to discuss his goals for his first term in office.  At the time he was the youngest member of the Illinois General Assembly.  Earlier this month Mitchell was appointed to also serve as interim director of the Illinois Democratic Party through the November elections.  In light of this new responsibility we decided to re-share Mitchel's interview.

 

Aon leading movement to create white-collar apprenticeship program

Global professional services firm Aon is in the second year of an innovative apprenticeship program that currently employs 50 students in technology, insurance and human resources positions while they earn associate’s degrees at two-year community colleges.

The two-year apprenticeship program began in 2017 and offers participants a competitive salary, employee benefits, paid tuition toward an associate’s degree, mentoring and on-the-job workforce training. Upon successful completion of the program, apprentices are also offered full-time employment at Aon.
