This year’s unusually harsh winter weather has slowed the development of a new shelter for victims of domestic abuse, city officials explained Tuesday. Originally expected to open this month, officials now project the center will not open until sometime in the coming winter.

Panel on Chicago violence wrestles with combating guns

The City Club of Chicago and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation hosted a panel Thursday about Chicago violence, which quickly turned into a focus on city efforts to specifically stop gun crime.

The event’s moderator Julia Stasch, MacArthur’s current head of U.S. grant-making and soon-to-be interim president, told the packed room that the event’s turnout was “a testament to the critical nature of the issue for our city.”
