County hospital system makes Shannon permanent CEO

The Cook County Health and Hospitals System Board unanimously approved Friday Dr. John Jay Shannon’s appointment as the health system’s CEO.

Shannon, who served as interim CEO for the past three months, will begin as permanent hospital-system CEO on Sunday, according to a CCHHS press release. He has held a number of different positions with CCHHS since first joining the health system in 1991, including Adult Asthma Clinic director and associate chair of the Department of Medicine.

Preckwinkle outlines 2015 county budget at City Club

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle at a Thursday City Club of Chicago event spoke of her efforts to balance the county’s 2015 budget.

The county has projected a 2015 budget shortfall of $169 million, according to Preckwinkle. Despite the gap, next year’s proposed budget marks a stark improvement compared to years past. The county has shrunk its projected deficit by $300 million from Preckwinkle’s first budget four years ago, the county board president said.
