Aldermen introduce Burge torture case program to City Council floor

Aldermen Howard Brookins (21st) and Proco "Joe" Moreno (1st) introduced an ordinance to City Council Wednesday that would set aside $20 million to compensate victims of torture under former Chicago Police Department Commander Jon Burge.

The ordinance would also serve as a formal apology to those victims, create a commission to administer the financial compensation and provide free enrollment in City Colleges to the victims. Another provision requires that Chicago Public Schools teach history lessons about the Burge torture cases.
