Tuesday manufacturing summit planned on Near West Side

With about 20,000 of Chicago’s roughly 400,000 manufacturing jobs currently unfilled and the American industry rebounding as labor costs in countries like Mexico and China rise, Peter Cunningham of the Manufacturing Renaissance organization says Chicago must prepare for a new manufacturing chapter. Toward that end, Cunningham will lead a public forum Tuesday on reinvigorating Chicago’s once-booming manufacturing industry.

Chicago's Office of the City Treasurer plans to create the “Office of Financial Inclusion” as part of an effort to develop financial literacy programs, Treasurer Stephanie Neely announced at a City Club of Chicago speech Wednesday.

“As city treasurer, I am charged with protecting and growing Chicago’s financial assets. I take that to mean more than just your tax dollars,” Neely said. “I will work hard to keep all Chicagoans in the financial mainstream.”
