Across the pond. Choose Chicago, the city’s tourism arm, has been running advertisements in London showcasing Chicago as a world-class travel destination. The ads are part of Choose Chicago’s campaign to attract international tourists. A photograph from Flickr user ed_needs_a_bicycle shows one the advertisements, which contains an image of Millennium Park’s glowing bean sculpture seemingly lighting up a London Underground transit station. The bean ad reads “Big Ben, meet big bean.”

Pushing papers. Data on chicagocouncilmatic.org, a website that organizes Chicago City Council legislation, shows Ald. Brendan Reilly (42nd) sponsored more ordinances than any other Chicago alderman in the last month, with 88. Ald. Ed Burke (14th) was the second most-active alderman, with 48 ordinances sponsored and Ald. Scott Waguespack (32nd) ranked third with 34.

Rockin’ Rahm. DNAinfo Chicago columnist Mark Konkol caught up with Mayor Rahm Emanuel recently, but not to talk about fighting crime or balancing budgets. Instead, Konkol discussed music with the mayor. Whether it’s The Rolling Stones, Wilco or Delta Spirit, Emanuel said he almost never skips a beat. He listens to music in the office almost continuously while he is at work. Want to rock out like Rahm?

Got pride? PRIDEChicago announced the group Filipinos & Friends in Chicago won the award for “Best All-Around Float” at last weekend’s 44th annual Chicago Pride Parade, which featured 204 entries. The winning float had extraordinary costumes and “great presentation,” according to Chicago.gopride.com.

The cup. Mayor Rahm Emanuel issued a statement on Monday night on the newly-crowned 2012-2013 NHL champions, the Chicago Blackhawks."The city of Chicago is thrilled to congratulate our own Chicago Blackhawks on their hard-fought victory, once again bringing the Stanley Cup back to their sweet home Chicago,” Emanuel said.

Lewis throws curveball. Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis spent much of her City Club of Chicago speech on Tuesday talking baseball. Lewis dreamt as a child that she would be the first female pitcher in MLB history and described the Chicago Cubs blowing the 1969 National League East division title as one of the worst moments in her life. Lewis even inserted baseball into her discussion of school closings, claiming that no one ever wants to close Wrigley Field when the Cubs lose.

Hot dog wars. On Tuesday, the Community Development Commission approved a $5 million subsidy to fund hot dog-maker Vienna Beef Ltd.'s move from 2501 N. Damen Ave. to 1000 W. Pershing Rd. in Bridgeport. During their discussion of the proposal, commissioners also considered another topic: ketchup on hot dogs. The topic came up when Lincoln Park Community leader Allan Mellis said that he never puts ketchup on his dogs, a practice seconded by Comm. Andrew Mooney, who noted he is a mustard fan. There was some dissent though – Comm.
