Across the pond. Choose Chicago, the city’s tourism arm, has been running advertisements in London showcasing Chicago as a world-class travel destination. The ads are part of Choose Chicago’s campaign to attract international tourists. A photograph from Flickr user ed_needs_a_bicycle shows one the advertisements, which contains an image of Millennium Park’s glowing bean sculpture seemingly lighting up a London Underground transit station. The bean ad reads “Big Ben, meet big bean.”

Divvy crazy. As the weather this week in Chicago is growing increasingly hot and humid, John Tolva, the city’s chief technology officer, isn’t afraid of breaking a sweat. “Damn right I’m using #DivvyBikes to get across town,” he tweeted Tuesday morning. “In a suit. In 92°.”

The life. Popular radio show “This American Life” made its 500th broadcast last weekend. To mark the occasion, David Haglund of the publication Slate compiled a list of his 10 favorite episodes of the long-running, Chicago-born show.

New kids on the block. Crain’s Chicago Business contributor Robert Loerzel showcases some of the city’s most interesting startups in the weekly roundup “New in Chicago.” This week’s roundup includes Bevdog, a free app that helps users find bar and restaurant specials; OnlyaDate.com, a new dating website; and CityFootprints, the local site that helps people create and share their own guides to the city.
