A bad rap

Republican Don Wilson, who is attempting to defeat incumbent state Sen. Terry Link (D-Waukegan) in the November general election, published on YouTube Wednesday a rap-themed campaign advertisement.

“He believes a better economy helps people with jobs and careers for the future years,” a rapper recites in the ad. “He’s a Republican that believes in the Home of the Brave and the Land of the Free.”

A bad wrap

Naperville was recently named the United States’ fourth-snobbiest mid-sized city by the online real estate brokerage Movoto Real Estate.

Movoto reviewed U.S. Census data and made its list based on cities’ home prices, average resident income, residents’ education levels, number of country clubs and fast-food locations per capita, according to the Chicago Tribune.

"Yes we do have a highly-educated population we're happy about and if that makes us snobs I'll stick with the moniker," Naperville Communications Manager Linda LaCloche said of the city’s new title.

Pedicab preservation

The Chicago Pedicab Association on Friday tweeted an image of pedicab drivers protesting the city’s new ordinance regulating the pedicab industry. The protest took place at a Chicago Bike Week rally in Daley Plaza.

The ordinance from Alderman Tom Tunney (44th), which took effect June 7, outlaws the operation of pedicabs between the area bounded by State Street, Congress Parkway, Michigan Avenue and Oak Street at all times. Operation in the entire Loop area is prohibited during rush hour, according to the association.

Heads up!

Margaret Hicks, a self-employed tour guide, recently launched a tour of what she considers to be “Chicago’s biggest secret.”

In what Hicks calls the “binocular tour,” she provides tour-goers with insight on the gargoyles that adorn much of downtown Chicago’s world-renowned architecture, according to DNAinfoChicago.

A Chicago Architecture Foundation docent until 2008, Hicks also offers tours of the city’s underground tunnel system and a guide to Chicago’s infamous disasters through her Chicago Elevated tour business.
