Ice cream, you scream

In an early celebration of National Ice Cream Day on Sunday, ride-share company Uber on Friday was delivering frozen treats throughout Chicago.

Ordering ice cream through Uber was just like ordering a ride through the Uber app, DNAinfo Chicago reported. Except instead of selecting “Uber X,” “black car” or “taxi,” users were given the option to hail an ice cream truck.

The delivery was free, and the price for up to 25 frozen treats in one order was $5-a-piece. Deliveries were scheduled for availability from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Feeling festive

It’s summer in Chicago and that can only mean one thing – street festivals, lots and lots of street festivals.

This weekend the city will play host to: Pitchfork Music Festival, Friday through Sunday in Union Park on the Near West Side; the Taste of River North, Friday through Sunday in Ward Park; the Chicago Craft Beer Festival, Saturday and Sunday at 2200 N. Sheffield in Lincoln Park; and the Chinatown Summer Fair, Sunday in Armour Square.

Show time

The Chicago Park District this summer is offering more than 250 outdoor viewings of movies at city parks in the 14th installment of Movies in the Parks.

Movies that will screen this weekend, among others, include: “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom” at Fosco Park in University Village Friday; “Captain Phillips,” Saturday at Loyola Park in Rogers Park; and “Ghostbusters,” Sunday at Jonquil Playlot Park in Lincoln Park. All showings begin at 8:30 p.m.

Quality ‘cue

Carson’s Prime Steaks & Famous Barbecue was named Chicagoland’s best barbecue restaurant in a recent ranking.

Carson’s was No. 5 in the country in restaurant reservation system Open Table’s list of the country’s best barbecue restaurants, according to Crain’s Chicago Business. Chicago Q, Piggyback Tavern and Chuck’s Southern Comforts Café also made the national ranking, for which more than 19,000 restaurants were entered.

Crain’s Thursday launched a poll to create its own list of Chicagoland’s best BBQ joints.
