Cullertons in the house

Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago) during his City Club of Chicago address this week gave a special shoutout to his wife, who was in the audience.

“I’m the president of the Illinois Senate, allow me to introduce the speaker of my house, Pam Cullerton,” the senate president said before beginning his remarks.

The Cullertons’ eldest daughter, Maggie, was also at Monday’s event.

Say cheese!

Fifty-three percent of the over 250 Chicago Dental Society members that participated in a recent survey said that Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan has the best smile of any Illinois politician.

“The dentist is my most favorite doctor to visit,” said Madigan. “I am almost religious about seeing my dentist every six months and taking care of my teeth.”

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White was voted to have the second-best smile among state officials in the survey, which was commissioned by the Chicago Dental Society. White received 26 percent of the vote. With the support of 5.8 percent of respondents, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle was second runner-up in the poll.

Chicago v. Detroit

From DNAinfo Chicago: Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder recently threw class out the window while speaking of the City of Big Shoulders.

“[Detroit is] one of the coolest places in the country,” the Michigan governor said. “I’ve told people, if you want to be another yuppie, go to Chicago. If you want to make a difference, move to Detroit.”

Snyder’s concerns about losing residents to Chicago are not unfounded. A 2013 study that found 56 percent of people that moved to Cook County in recent times are from Michigan.

Do you want fries with that?

Two of Oak Brook-based McDonald’s Corp.’s restaurants located in Tampa, Fla. have been taking reservations for Valentine’s Day dinner dates, according to NewsFeed.Time.com.

It was reported that tables in the restaurants would be adorned with red tablecloths and artificial roses. And perhaps to attract a higher caliber of guest, the restaurants planned to offer steak as part of their menus – an item typically only found on McDonald’s breakfast menu. The restaurants planned a full-service, sit-down experience for patrons for the night.

One of the McDonald’s restaurants had stopped taking reservations as of 12 p.m. Thursday, but the other still had openings for Friday night between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.
