Heads up!

Those living or working in the city probably heard participants of the 56th annual Chicago Air & Water Show preparing over the last few days.

For those heading to North Avenue Beach on Saturday and Sunday to enjoy the free show, the Chicago Tribune published a list of pointers. The guide features a weather forecast, a list of venders and other information. The Trib also published a list of performers.

The show is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days.

Best of the fests

Chicago’s street festivals continue this weekend.

Festivals taking place this week include: Festa Italiana, which began Thursday at the intersection of Taylor Street and Ashland Avenue in Little Italy and runs through Sunday; the new Albany Park World Fest, taking place on Saturday and Sunday at the intersection of Kimall and Lawrence avenues; and the St. Richard Family Fest & Carnival, which kicked off Thursday at 5025 S. Kostner Ave. in Archer Heights and wraps up Sunday.

Hoop time

The third-annual World Basketball Festival kicked off in Chicago on Thursday.

The three-day event offers free basketball clinics for kids, appearances from professional players and “festival-style community events,” according to the Mayor’s Office. Festivities conclude on Saturday with an exhibition game at the United Center at 8 p.m. between U.S.A.’s 2014 Men’s National Team and Brazil’s team.

“In addition to providing elite-level competition, the youth clinics to be offered by the festival will give our kids an opportunity to play the game they love, to improve and to have fun around great mentors,” Mayor Rahm Emanuel said in a statement.
