Hullabalooza

The 17th installment of the wildly-popular Lollapalooza music festival kicked off on Friday.

Well over 100 artists are on the bill, so it’s a safe bet that the three-day fest has a little something for everyone. But DNAinfo Chicago pointed out the event may just provide big headaches for those who weren’t lucky enough to score a ticket for the sold-out show.

With about 300,000 people expected to gather at Grant Park, poor cellphone reception, outrageous ride share-service prices and heightened security outside of the park are anticipated, which could make traveling around much of the downtown area a nightmare.

Check out DNAinfo’s list of the “10 Ways Lollapalooza will screw up your weekend.”

Plan B

Not attending Lollapalooza this weekend? Fear not. Chicago has plenty of outdoor activities for those looking to avoid the high prices and ensuing fuss associated with the event.

There are many opportunities for fun outside of the Loop. Fiesta del Sol kicked off Thursday in Pilsen. Held on Cermak Road between Morgan Street and Ashland Avenue, the event runs through Sunday. Wrigleyville Summerfest will take place on Saturday and Sunday at 3550 N. Seminary Ave. in Lakeview. The Edgewater neighborhood with host Edgefest at 5925 N. Broadway on Saturday and Sunday.

Where do you ‘cue?

Although a bit skew-er-ed, the results of Crain’s Chicago Business’ poll of the city’s best barbecue spots came in this week.

As a follow up to Open Table’s list of the country’s best barbeque restaurants, Crain’s asked its readers to name their favorite spots in Chicago. River North’s Carson’s Ribs won, but many of its votes reportedly came from the same computer.

Smoque BBQ in Irving Park finished second in the Crain’s poll. Real Urban Barbecue, which has locations in Highland Park and Vernon Hill, placed No. 3.

Quinn honors the ‘Big Hurt’

Gov. Pat Quinn declared last Sunday “Frank Thomas Day” in Illinois in honor of retired White Sox slugger Frank Thomas’s induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

“Frank Thomas was one of the greatest hitters around and now the #BigHurt will enter @BaseballHall as a member of the @whitesox,” the governor tweeted, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
