House keeps Democratic property tax freeze measure alive, GOP members decry effort as stunt

During a contentious meeting on Friday, the Illinois House approved an amendment to House Bill 695 that would impose a property freeze.

Friday’s vote amends House Bill 695 to include language prohibiting local governments from raising property taxes without voter approval. Friday’s vote to approve the amendment to the bill was 37-23 with 38 representatives voting “present.”
