Radio host and conservative leader Dan Proft to speak at City Club

Radio show host, former Illinois gubernatorial candidate and Illinois Policy Institute fellow Dan Proft is set to speak on “The State of Illinois Politics” at the City Club of Chicago this coming Monday, November 6.

Proft serves on the boards of several nonprofits in Chicago and runs the Liberty Principals PAC. The group reported having nearly $2.7 million in available funds in its latest quarterly report with the Illinois State Board of Elections. Proft also hosts a radio show that draws about 2 million listeners a week and founded a network of community newspapers, Local Government Information Services, that are now spread across Illinois.

Recently Proft has garnered attention recently for his criticisms of Republican leaders in Springfield. The Chicago Tribune wrote last month that Proft “was once a [Gov. Bruce] Rauner ally and is now at odds with the governor after he signed” a bill expanding “taxpayer-subsidized abortion coverage for women on Medicaid and on the staet employee health insurance.” The paper noted he has also been “highly critical of [Illinois House Minority Leader Jim] Durkin.” Burr Ridge Mayor Mickey Straub is running against Durkin in the 2018 primary and has appeared on Proft’s radio show this fall.

City Club has not indicated exactly what Proft will speak about next week, but he is likely to present an interesting take on Illinois’ politics.
