Preckwinkle reiterates she is focused on re-election, not mayoral run

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle again on Wednesday did not completely close the door on a possible run for Chicago mayor in 2015.

Asked by reporters whether she has ruled out a challenge of Mayor Rahm Emanuel in next year’s election, Preckwinkle responded, “I’m running for re-election for the job that I have.”

Preckwinkle is unopposed for county board president and she did state that, “It’s my intention to be in the job for the [next four-year] term.” The rookie county board president said that she has unfinished business, such as reducing the county’s prison population.

But Preckwinkle repeatedly passed on a chance to say that she has totally made up her mind not to run for mayor in 2015. For example, asked by a reporter if she would “rule out” such a run, Preckwinkle answered – again, “I’m running for re-election for the job I got.”
