Illinoisans for Growth and Opportunity (IllinoisGO) on Tuesday unveiled a new advertisement highlighting the impact Chicago has on Illinois’ economy and encouraging state lawmakers to seek compromises to improve the city’s financial standing.
IllinoisGO’s ad noted the Chicago area “powers” 82 percent of the state’s economy and contains 25 percent of Illinois businesses. The video goes on to argue cuts to education and state pension debt have harmed Chicago’s financial standing and negatively affected the state as a whole.
“The future of Chicago affects us all,” the voiceover stated. “Decades of bad policy from Springfield have made these local problems worse.”
In the ad, IllinoisGO calls on Springfield lawmakers to “step up and do their part,” encouraging them to “stop state cuts to education, end double taxation and make a real plan to invest in infrastructure.”
The video released Tuesday is the group’s third web advertisement. IllinoisGO is airing the ad on digital platforms in suburban Cook County and the collar counties.
